The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased; and not impaired in value.
— President Theodore Roosevelt

Florida’s environment is its most precious resource. Protecting our springs, beaches, and the Everglades is critically important to our quality of life, tourism, and our economy. It is imperative that our government officials ensure that our environment is protected for current and future generations, by implementing statewide comprehensive water policies and transforming the way we conserve our most valuable natural resource. As our next State Representative, Joe will make decisions regarding Florida’s environment based on science, not on political rhetoric or special interest desires, by supporting legislation that:

  • Fast tracks repairs to the Herbert Hoover Dike, eliminating the need for water discharges into the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie Rivers;

  • Constructs the C-43 and C-44 Reservoirs, planned under Governor Bush, so that freshwater releases from Lake Okeechobee can be redirected South through the Everglades, addressing the sources of nutrient pollution flowing into the lake;

  • Addresses water quantity and water quality issues by establishing water-flow levels for springs and setting guidelines for water management districts and for farmers;

  • Protects our coastline from offshore oil drilling.
